Same-job head-to-heads

Channel Battles explained

Quick answer

A Channel Battle is a same-job head-to-head: two demos play, and each viewer picks the product they would actually try. Those votes update Elo from a start of 1000. Channels 1–3 are the current top scores. Same-company and duplicate-product demos never fight. Labelled airtime is not a vote and never buys rank.

What is a Channel Battle?

Two demos for the same job play side by side. Each viewer backs the one they would try. One vote per person per match-up. The winner’s Elo goes up and the loser’s goes down.

Who faces whom?

Opponents share a product use case — coding assistants face coding assistants. A broad directory label such as Productivity is not enough on its own. Comparable products may sit in adjacent categories when they share a reviewed group.

Can two demos from the same company fight?

No. Demos from the same show, and duplicate demos of the same product, cannot face one another.

How does Elo become a channel?

Every demo starts at 1000. After each battle the published Elo formula updates both scores. Channels 1–3 are simply the current top three.

Does airtime decide a battle winner?

No. Airtime is a labelled placement. A paid view is never itself a vote. Rank comes only from audience picks.

What if my product has no competitor yet?

It stays in the directory and waits for a suitable opponent. Existing votes remain recorded. Views never make unrelated products eligible.

Can the number one demo be dethroned?

Yes. Every battle can move any demo. Channels are recomputed continuously from current Elo scores.
